Hyundai - digging in at Fieldays 19 June 2009 The stands are packed up, the mud is drying out, Fieldays is already a memory. Except for one exhibitor - the evidence of Hyundai Motors New Zealand's stand will be there for another week yet. When you use the largest marquee in New Zealand it takes a little longer than a day to pull down. This was Hyundai's 6th year at Fieldays and as the dealers sit in the warm and dry and reflect, general consensus was that it was another great year. With a low dairy payout and a global recession everybody's expectations were lowered, however Hyundai sales figures were not disappointing. Unsurprisingly 65% of those sales were SUV's. The next most popular model was the award winning i30 that took out nearly 13%. "It's all about positive attitude" stated Hyundai's National Sales Manager Tom Ruddenklau. "We are certainly not going to approach the recession with pessimism. This year we hosted hundreds of customers in our VIP parking and corporate hospitality. People are drawn to brands and operations that are successful. In times like these it is important to support the backbone of the national economy and this is why we approach Fieldays with such energy and commitment - we need to give a little back to those who have supported us. Plus it's a good fit, as a 100% New Zealand owned and operated company it makes sense that we play a big role in this industry." As a strategic partner of the National Fieldays organisation, a sponsor of the National Bank Young Farmer Contest and a now significant supplier of vehicles into some of New Zealand's most prominent and well respected rural vehicle fleets, Hyundai are taking that role seriously." Hyundai are a particularly active sponsor of the National Bank Young Farmer Contest. Staff have spent the last few months travelling the country and have been present at every heat of the competition - from Wellsofrd to Greymouth to Tapanui - spending time getting to know the competitors, their supporters and the farming communities in those areas. The seven young farmer finalists put on exhibition displays for Fieldays guests and could often be found in the Hyundai marquee talking to customers or doing radio interviews. Everyone is getting excited now about the finals in July - and speculating about who will win the Santa Fe that is up for grabs. Tom finished by saying: "We have this amazing space at Fieldays and we like to use it to give people a taste of who are we. We run a pinnacle programme that supports upcoming athletes - world class athletes Moss Burmester and Andrew Murdoch are part of that so they came and spent some time talking to customers. Our partner charity is the Child Cancer Foundation, they had a space in the marquee and over the four days we managed to raise just under $1300. For Hyundai, Fieldays is about much more than selling cars."
